    thnaks for the trial

  2. Ollie Says:

Yo! This sounds awesome, i’m trying it now, and looks like i might have to get in there before the $50 price tag!

  3. logan Says:

    cool

  4. Chichikov Says:

Good software - however I think the trial is a little offbase. Give me a fully functioning product in the trial and make it for a limited time - a week, a month, whatever. What’s going to make the difference on a purchase from me is the advanced features, and since I can’t try those, I’m not going to buy it.

I want to try out the email, google calendar, etc.

  5. Shear Mohammed Says:

I think this would be a great addition to my collection of media gear as this would help me open applications faster so my clients can receive a faster product and it would 100% help me with my school projects etc as I can save time. thanks for this wonderful product!

  6. Colin conn Says:

I cannot wait to try this out!

  7. lee douglas Says:

    just checking out DASH

  8. Rich Says:

This is great software. I’m loving it already. Thank you so much.

  9. Mark Hamilton Says:

I really wanted to buy this software as it looks very good, but if I can’t try it I can’t buy it.
Crippleware isn’t a good way to allow us to ‘try’ out a half-functioning product.

    I’ll pass, thanks.

  10. tigger2u Says:

This is an absolutely brilliant product. I was glad to see the post and video about Dash on Lifehacker today.

  11. paste120 Says:

Amazing app! just purchased it. 3 thumbs up!

  12. Ruler Of Wax Says:

Hey trigger, i saw it on lifehacker today 2!! i cant w8 for this product bet as other ppl say u should give all fetchers for like 1 week and then it would be great

  13. Wolfgang Says:

just saw it on lifehacker too ;)
any special promotion for lifehacker readers? :D
    great program ;)

    Hello there, Dash Admin here.

We are considering your trial concerns with regards to the missing features. We are open to changing this, but we are worried about piracy.

Please let us know your suggestions on this regard.

And thank you for your comments, they keeps us going!

  15. phx Says:

Greetings. Dig your program with one exception thus far. When doing a Google search with quotes, only the first quoted word is searched. For example: querying “phrase in quotes” on Google via Dash will result in a Google search for “phrase” only.

  16. Talthibus Says:

I’m enjoying what i’m able to access and use. I agree with those asking for a fully functional trial. I’m not in the habit of buying stuff if i can’t test out features and functionality i expect to use the most.

fear of piracy is a healthy concern, but take care that the cost of protecting against it doesn’t outweigh the perceived costs of piracy.

there isn’t any software out there which can’t be cracked and pirated, but people are willing to pay the developer for software rather than download pirated copies because pirated copies can contain all kinds of nasty surprise payloads.

  17. Chasbro Says:

I 2nd the call for a fully functional trial version of the software. I simply will not buy software where I can’t try out all the features. Having been burned several times by the “fixed in the next release” promise over the years, I won’t buy a product where I can’t test that it does everything I need it to do.
Your loss via piracy will be less than the cost of turning away potential customers.

  18. John Says:

I agree with Talthibus. Seems like there’s plenty of other software out there that will give you a fully functioning trial for a limited period of time (e.g. GTD Outlook addin; Adobe Photoshop Elements makes it virtually impossible to reinstall the trial unless you reformat your hard drive, so maybe you should investigate that option. Anyway, thanks for being open to suggestions…your willingness to consider what your potential customers are suggesting makes me even more interested in your product.

  19. admin Says:

    Hello again.

We are looking for options to protect the trial and permit a full Dash experience for potential customers. Once we find the proper way to do that we will inform you all.

As “u” suggested there is a bug when creating new web keywords, the command expects more parameters. It will be fixed in the next update this week.

Japanese characters are not supported yet.

  20. Michael Says:

I’ll be more interested when it is more pen friendly.

  21. Avinash Says:

I would appreciate it more if I had a full featured trail. Still nice app.

  22. Brock Says:

I agree with the previous comments. I use Launchy extensively and the crippled version of Dash doesn’t let me try out any of the stuff that sets it apart from Launchy. Can’t evaluate properly.

  23. Teflon Says:

This is a wonderful product but without testing the full functionality I doubt I would buy. I’ve been using this for a couple days now and so far I like what I see.

I agree with Talthibus. Your never going to be able to build functionality to stop piracy unless you include some sort of phone-home check, but this may scare away legit customers.

If all of the features displayed in the video worked as expected without many issues I would buy. But I need to try them myself. I can’t go off of the video alone.

Most people tend to download pirated software that is financially out of their reach. With a low price tag of $30/$50 you’d have no problem getting my money. I like to support the underdogs.

  24. HyBR!D Says:

interesting. it looks like it could be almost as good as quicksilver. considering many people have tried to do this for windows, and this appears to be the first real success, i say kudos to the development team.

  25. roypierce Says:

looks nice, but it is not pen enabled. Would be very nice if it was. Just like vista input panel, it would be cool to have the Dash input bar sitting on the side of the screen. Tapping it with the mouse or the pen causes it to appear in the middle of the screen, this instead of using a hot-key.

  26. Andrée Says:

Can’t wait to try this out. Read about it @ lifehacker and the postitive comments there pushed me towards trying it out.

  27. Michael Says:

This is a great application. And I’m glad to find an application just like quicksilver for windows.

  28. Doug Says:

Agree with many of the previous posters - price is great either $20 or $50 …..but you gotta test all the features before you buy. Let us know when you figure that out. Thanks and good luck on the great work.

  29. admin Says:

    Dash Admin here…

We are actively seeking a solution to remove the limitations on the trial, so please be patient. We are listening to you guys, seriously!

With the initial sales rush we are just above our heads in priority tasks. But we are making good progress.

  30. Morpheus Says:

Love the functionality (although not present in the trial :X), but the one thing that bothers me is the fact that the choice of keys to actually bring it up is so little. I should be able to choose whichever key combo I want, not just ctrl, shift, and win key. What about alt?? Other than that looking great so far, looking forward to the finished product.

  31. MJ Says:

I love this app! LifeHacker had a nice review, so I decided to give it a try - I’m glad I did. If you’re looking for an quicksilver equivalent program for Windows, this is it! I just wish I could test out the email function and change the hotkey to ALT-Space…
Count me in as a beta tester for new releases.

  32. ronbor Says:

Tried it and love it (”crippleness” notwithstanding). Quick question before I buy; Am I the only one having problems with display issues whenever I open any of the options dialog boxes (to edit Keywords, for example)? I am using a 1680 x 1050 monitor. I can barely read the text because it is badly contorted. If you tell me where I will post a screenshot for you. Thanks in advance.

  33. Mark Says:

Great product. Looking forward to full capability trial. Have one issue: spacing of fields and windows in Options dialog is all askew, I run my high res notebook monitor at a higher (120) dpi, this may be the cause?

  34. Greg Says:

    Hi everybody,

Got a question ! Can Dash interact with Outlook as easy as with Google (calendar, notes,…) ?
Apart from that, very nice app ! Great job ! It looks like it is worth the price. But as most people here, I’d like to taste more ! =)

  35. Ben Jacob Says:

wow Your Dash Command really ROCKS !!. I like its most features .. It takes the value of your money !!

  36. Brad Isaac Says:

I’ve heard such raving reviews about Quicksilver I gave Dash a try. Wanting to try the full fledged “Quicksilver” equivalent on my Windows XP machine, I went ahead and registered.

I’ll be putting it through the paces and will post a review on my blog as soon as I can get it written up.

One question for Admin. In purchasing a license can you run it on both your home and work machine?

  37. Edu Says:

    Nice!!!!
While I wait for a trial without limitations for a full test, i’m wondering if it´s possible introduce on the next release thunderbird integration.

Thanks and congratulations for this great software!!!

  38. Mark Hamilton Says:

Someone told me to look back here as the admin is willing to reconsider the crippled Dash for a fully featured trial - much respects to admin and the team behind Dash for considering what your users have to say!

Yes, I will wait for the un-crippled trial to come out. Would appreciate an email to us letting us know of the new release.

A quick question, I hope the Google stuff works with Google for your Domain? I use docs/email/calendar of Google with my domain. As I’m sure more other lifehackers do. I sure do hope to God you make it work with GfyD.
Like someone said, with the low price tag, I’ll buy it. Just let me test it out completely.

Once again, kudos for considering our opinions. :-)

  39. Ryan Says:

I’ll have to wait for a full-featured trial, since the features in the demo don’t go further than my current solution, Launchy.

Dash seems a bit more responsive while typing than Launchy, though. And the dash window appears quicker and more reliably than Launchy’s. Nice!

I would like to customize the number of items in the dropdown, too (alternate matches). I prefer to see many items at once.

It’s a little hard to see what I’ve typed, since it is mixed in with the best response name. A skin that has a dedicated text entry field might be nice.

Lastly, I miss Launchy’s fuzzy text matching. It means that if I type “herts”, it will still find and match/suggest the game “Internet Hearts”.

This product looks very promising, and I look forward to trying the real thing.

(I’m also curious of the licensing restrictions regarding multiple computers, since I would hope to use it at work and home.)

  40. jarhead Says:

I couldn’t see ever paying $50 for it (unless, of course, features not yet available are forthcoming). I purchased this product as a SlickRun user wanting a Launchy interface. Dash rocks! And it rocks hard. Besides the various shortcuts set up, I have also set up various websites where I enter all of my search information directly into Dash without ever opening my browser. And I’m not just talking about simple Google searches either. A 15 day trial version would be better than the crippled version currently available. You really cannot grasp the full features of this program with the current trial. But $20 is nothing. Take a leap. You will not regret it.

  41. SimH Says:

Great piece of software. Tried Launchy but couldn’t get on with it, so I’ve been using Google Desktop for launching programs. Now, I’ll always launch with Dash.

One thing I need more than anything is a quick search of my Outlook contacts (not Outlook Express) for phone numbers. Within OUtlook it’s clunky and in G Desktop it requires drilling down through a couple of screens. Any chance that Dash could have a ‘Phone’ command (with the ability to dial?)

  42. briankeith Says:

I really, really like it (the ideal of it I mean). But I agree, I need a trial that gives me more than what launchy does for free.

    Questions I have;

    1. How does the lic. work? If I do a reinstall do I have to use another one of my 3? Or can I use the same code?

    2. Will my purchase support any upgrades past 1.0?

    3. “Any chance that Dash could have a ‘Phone’ command (with the ability to dial?)” ala skype?

    4. Any idea when the “non-cripple” version of the trial will be out?

  43. Kenny Pitt Says:

Looks promising, and I like the low memory requirements. One big show-stopper for me, though, is the completion matching. I’ve used Launchy and AppRocket, as well as Quicksilver on the Mac, and I’m too used to abbreviating IE for Internet Explorer and FF for Firefox. Dash doesn’t seem to allow abbreviations to skip letters.

I’d also like to know the answer to the earlier licensing question. A launcher is a handy utility, but not an essential application for getting my work done. $50 seems awfully steep (compare to Enso Launcher at $19.95 long-term price) for all my computers, and I certainly wouldn’t pay that for EACH computer.

  44. admin Says:

    Admin Speaking,

I want to answer a few questions.

    1. Unrestricted Trial: The next update we make to the trial version is going to be non-restricted, so that everyone can test all the features in Dash. We don’t have a set date yet, but I suspect it will be coming out around the end of Sept. or beginning of Oct.

    2. Comparison with Launchers: Launching is just a very small fraction of what Dash can do. We made the mistake of limiting the trial functions so that only the program launching capabilities are exposed, but the new trial will show all of what Dash is capable of, which goes beyond launching.

    3. Text Search: We have implemented an additional non-contiguous text matching algorithm for those used to it.

    4. Price and Licensing: The $50 price is still being debated and under consideration, there is a big chance we will change it when we end the pre-release phase. Each Dash purchase has 4 licenses so you can install Dash in 4 different machines with a single purchase. Reinstallations do not use up another license. The purchase covers all updates for 1.x

    5. Outlook, Phone, etc.: We are constantly adding more features to Dash so better Outlook integration and Skype integration have been added to our list.
