I could read a poster complain how this launcher was quite underpowered compared to other applications available.

I sincerely hope that is not the case, this might be wishful thinking on my part but could this launcher possibly attain the same functionality as Quicksilver on the Mac?

That being said, is it possible to edit word or notepad documents without opening said documents? Just via a few Dash commands?

Dash is quite customizable. What is it exactly you want to do? Just add a line to a text document?

Is there a topic constructed to explain these features to a newbie such as myself?

I would start by looking at the Dash User’s Manual
http://www.trydash.com/home/oniline-help/

Also the “Dash Developers Manual” (placed in your Dash application folder), it explains in more detail how you can configure keywords.

Looking in the forum, the append to text file has been discussed

Otherwise post to the forum

Thank you, I had my doubts at first over this software. But if it’s highly customizable and being continuously expanded via updates then I’m sure it’ll surpass most launchers.

I honestly feel it’s already surpassed other launchers. The quality and polish certainly puts it above the others in my opinion.

Dash has a few features that I don’t think other launchers (on Windows) have.

I you select some text e.g. in notepad, you can invoke Dash and select the google keyword. Dash will take the text from notepad and perform a google search with it.

Dash also supports different types of arguments and history. Take the email keyword for example. Dash will prompt you for an email address, but instead of requiring you to type the entire email address. Dash shows you email addresses from your address book, and allows you to just select one with a few key strokes.
When you enter the email body, Dash will also show you a history of previously entered email bodies and allow you to just select one.

These features made me buy Dash, since the price is very reasonable and it appears that Dash is currently the most advanced keyboard launcher for Windows.

Try other launchers and then try Dash. You cannot depend on one individual. For all you know, that individual may have no clue on how to use it. I rarely use my mouse anymore thanks to Dash. I post directly to text files, post to web portals from Dash (i.e., Backpack, twitter, etc.), conduct web searches (and not simple ones like Google either). You name it. I recommend you try it for yourself before listening to anyone else.

I am convinced that currently Dash has the most advanced architecture of any comparable software, including QuickSilver.

On the features area, we are still not quite as rich as QS, but we are ahead of other launchers that we know of.

We just need to keep adding features and plugins to achieve the level of functionality that a 3+ year old application like QuickSilver has attained.

Our intent is for Dash to be the most powerful, easiest to use and most beautiful application of this kind.

In conclusion, even at this point (we are working towards version 1.0):

Dash has the most advanced architecture
The most polished interface (usability, looks, ergonomics, workflow)
The most flexible customization out of the box
And a very rich feature set surpassing other software

…and we are not done yet!

how did you get it to work with twitter?

I would like to send rtm a message with twitter to add a task. Someone please show me the light :)
