I'd agree with brandon.kane here, the alt-space combo is a 'reserved' windows hotkey (out of the box).

I have no real issues with other people using it, but I for one won't use it, it'll get in the way of my work methods. Try pasting into a command-prompt without using the mouse for example. The only way to do it is to use alt-space,e,p.

Yes add the ability, but as long as it's configurable.

I agree with the Alt-Spc advocates, it just feels more natural. I used that combination for many months with my previous launcher (Find & Run Robot) and never noticed any problems.

I agree with Zanidot, I\'m willing to deal with any quirks in order to maintain Alt+spacebar for activation.

I\'ve been using that key combo on Win for a while with launchy without problem, and Apple+Spacebar which is the same set of keys on my Mac with launchbar forever.

It\'s not a good option for me to go with anything else.

I know that I would really appreciate it if Dash gave the option of Alt+Spacebar but maybe gave a disclaimer advising against it - but still letting you do it if you want.

If it\'s productivity that you\'re after, I wouldn\'t recommend the typical Alt+Space hotkey. Alt+Space\'s main purpose is windows management. You can quickly close/maximize/restore/size/move/minimize windows. Even if the developers of Dash add the ability to use Alt, I would strongly recommend you not use it and learn to use Alt+Space to manage your open windows. This will be yet another productivity boost.

The Alt key is missing because it shifts the focus away from the current control when invoking Dash. (ex. you are writing down something in a text editor, press Alt and focus shifts to the menus)

Dash needs to know the focused control/window to read selections or to perform a series of actions, therefore the Alt key had to go.

Users have setup Win + Space and Ctrl + Space instead.

Thank you for your comment, we will try to make it more clear for users what the activation hotkey is.

Currently, the hotkey win + - (win key + dash key) is mentioned in the installation wizard under the heading IMPORTANT, also you can tell what the hotkey is by clicking on the tray icon. Finally, as you mentioned it can be found in the manual.

Additionally, if you click on the tray icon and go to Options you can change the hotkey there. (or type Options within Dash)

i just spent a few minutes trying to figure out the hotkey for dash. i guess i am used to the hotkeys on other applications. i finally read the manual and found it to be win -

as a suggestion maybe you should tell the users about the hot key.
