What are the minimum requirements for running Dash?
Dash uses very little resources, so you do not need a top of the line computer to use it. A 500 MHz PC running Windows 2000, XP or Vista is enough.
Dash uses around 3Mb of RAM while inactive, so you don't need much memory either, but the more memory you have the better response times you will get overall, not only for Dash.
For Activation and Automatic Updates, Dash needs an internet connection. If you have activated Dash, you won't need an internet connection anymore unless you want to upgrade or if you want to use internet related features.
Dash doesn't need any libraries, runtimes, or anything else.

How quickly will I get Dash after I buy it?
You will get a download link immediately after purchase. No waiting.
Activation is also painless, you just enter your purchase login number and that's it.
Instant Gratification.

I try the default hotkey, Win + - (windows key + dash key), and Dash won't open.
It is possible that some other application has registered the default hotkey, or that due to some particularity of your local language settings the default key is not activating Dash.
In such case, just click on the Dash icon on the task bar tray, and select Options. In the Options window, go to the Preferences tab, select a new hotkey combination and press the Set Key button.

I purchased Dash and I still get the "Expired" message when I use it. How do I fix it?
The trial version Data did not get uninstalled and is interfering with the registered version. To properly reinstall Dash follow this procedure:
1. Quit Dash if running
2. Go to Program Files/DashCommand (or whatever your installation folder is) and uninstall Dash, then delete the folder.
3. In XP, go to Documents and Settings/USER/Local Settings/Application Data/DashCommand folder and delete the whole folder.
In Vista go to USER/appdata/local/DashCommand and delete this folder.
4. If you are using Vista, go to USER/appdata/virtualstore and delete any DashCommand folder you can find.
5. If you previously installed a trial version of Dash, go to the trial installation folder, uninstall it and delete the folder.
6. Go to Start Menu > Startup and delete any Dash Icons.
7. Make sure you have the latest version (above 0.94) and Install Dash normally. -
Dash is no opening my applications. I type the name of my application, press Enter and nothing happens.
In some cases we have found that there is a bad association of .LNK files (shortcuts) in windows. To restore the default shortcut behavior, please download this ZIP file:
Then, just Unzip and run the linkfile_fix.reg file.

Auto-Updates are not working, is there a work-around?
We are working on a better solution, but for example, Vista requires Admin priviledges to be able to run the auto-update, and since the auto-updater would need to be run on start-up the Vista UAC will bother the user each time Dash starts. So we decided against making the auto-updater be run as Admin automatically.
If you run into this problem try this:
1. Make sure you Quit Dash.
2. Go to the Dash Command folder, run the DashLauncher.exe as admin. It should automatically download the latest version.
3. Quit Dash.
4. A new file called UpdateDashCommand... .exe will appear in the folder. Execute this file.
5. Start DashLauncher.exe againTo verify your version, type About.
We will have a better solution to this issue very soon.

If I need to reinstall my Windows, will Dash need another license?
No, Dash will recognize the machine where you installed it and will activate properly without using another of your licenses. So you can reinstall windows as many times as required without any loss.
-
Will you have Dash for Mac?
We are hard at work on the Windows version at this point. But we are open to the possibility of porting to other platforms like Mac or Linux.
-
What are the restrictions in the trial version?
The restrictions at this point are a smaller set of commands, the user can only create 5 keywords, keywords and scanners cannot be edited. The trial is also time limited.
We are learning, so this may change in the future.

Dash doesn't seem to recognize subfolders or files that are in the subfolders that I tell it to scan. Am I doing something wrong here?
Make sure the subfolder checkbox is checked, and make sure you have specified the right extensions (file types) to scan for. At this moment, Dash will not add to the keyword list the names of Folders (we will change this shortly).
-
Can Dash run from an USB Drive, so that I can take it anywhere ?
At this point you cannot do this. We want this feature in Dash, so we are investigating solutions. When we come up with a good solution, it will certainly be announced.
-
Can you copy the Dash keyword database to another computer on which you have Dash installed?
Yes you can. Your user created keywords are stored in the KeywordsMyKeywords.kw file. Copying that file to another machine will allow you to get to your user created keywords. We do not recommend copying over other keyword files since most are system specific.
Also be aware that if your user keywords call installed applications that are in different folders in those two machines, the keywords will not work in the copy until you set the right path.

Does Dash work with unicode?
Unfortunately Dash does not support unicode at this point. There are plans to update Dash to have full unicode support.
